Twice a year my nephew Christian comes to visit us from NYC. It's where he lives... I've chatted about him before. In fact, I've probably chatted about him many times in the six years of this little journal, I mean if you think about it, he was 14 when I started this thing.
Christian and I have always been pretty close. Well, as close as two people can be when they've never actually lived in the same city, or same state for that matter. When I met Christian when he was 5 years old, he lived in Oklahoma, and I was living in Boston. Then by the time I moved to Texas, he had moved all the way to South Carolina. By the time we decided to move back to California, he was living here, but literally on his way out the door to NYC to start his college journey. Great timing. But, somehow we've managed to make it work, and all these years the short visits we've had, whether it be him coming to Dallas to stay with me, or me going to South Carolina to stay with them, or him coming home on summer or Christmas break from college, we pick right back up where we left off.
I tell ya, it sure is great to be the Aunt. I'm not the one who has to worry, or scold or judge. (even though I still do somewhat, and from afar) I just get to be the one who says, "Ohhh, let's make Margarita's, and dance..." or "Let's get in our jammies, cuddle up and watch YouTube video's and laugh our ass' off..!" or, "Don't worry nephew, in 3 years none of these current worries of yours will even matter..!" and my personal favorite,"Where's the Bailey's..?" We just click. We get each other. We laugh at and with each other, and hopefully, it won't ever change. I've watched him grow up into a "fine young man." Well, he was always a fine young man even at nine years old when there we were sitting up in his treehouse; me with a terrible broken heart, and him with his chubby cheeks and bright spirit, giving ME advice on how simple it is to just not stay friends with people who lie. This kid was so smart, even back then.
I hope nothing but the best for him and look so forward to watching his life continue on it's path. Whatever path that might be, I just hope I have a front row seat, and with a vip pass of course.
If you want to get to know him better,
